Meet Lucy Smith, NSD Studio Manager at NSD Labels

Company Role / What do you do at NSD Labels?

I was appointed Studio Manager back in August after spending my first year at the company as a Graphic Designer. I oversee digital workflow in our Studio and manage any design projects we have on the go. 

What’s your background?

I grew up in Northern Ireland and moved to Scotland nearly 6 years ago for university (hard to believe!) During that time I had the opportunity to teach in China and South Africa. After finishing university I worked as a freelance Graphic Designer until I came to NSD.

Where did you study? What are your qualifications?

I studied Digital Media and Interaction Design at Edinburgh Napier University.

What do you like about working at NSD Labels?

I like that every day is different! I get to meet some really interesting customers and help bring their ideas to life. The team are also great, we work well together & everyone is always up for a laugh.

What is something customers in your industry are challenged with that you can help with /fix?

I think having a knowledgeable team in house that can help our customers with anything design or technical related is a great bonus. Having an understanding of print while designing something can really enhance the results, we are all so passionate about what we do and want our customers to experience the best service.

I love all music! If I had to choose it would probably be Frank Turner, Madness or anything Musical Theatre. My favourite movies are Mamma Mia, Les Misérables & The Parent Trap.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I spend most of my time with my better half and friends (normally involving a wee gin) or else singing and playing my guitar. I will be making the most of restrictions lifting this year and going back to Northern Ireland more often to see my family & friends, I also plan on climbing my first Munro next month!
